Who we are

This app is published by Guruji Sangat Foundation Inc., a 501(c)(3) public charity (EIN 46-5112897) that operates Guruji Ka Ashram NJ.

In this policy, “we”, “us”, and “our” refer to Guruji Sangat Foundation Inc., and “the app” refers to the Guruji Ka Ashram NJ mobile application.

What we collect

We collect the minimum information needed to operate the app’s features.

  • Device push notification token. Only collected if you opt in to notifications. Used to deliver reminders for satsangs and announcements. You can revoke this at any time in your phone’s Settings.
  • Anonymous app analytics. Crash reports (via Expo) and basic usage telemetry (which screens are opened, how long the app is used). This data is not linked to your name, email, or phone number. You can opt out in the app’s Settings screen.

Donations

The app does not see, store, or transmit any payment card or bank account information. When you choose to donate, the app simply hands you off to an external provider:

  • PayPal — opens a PayPal-hosted donation page in your browser. PayPal handles all card and account information directly.
  • Zelle — we display a Zelle email address; the transaction happens entirely inside your bank’s app.
  • Check — we display a mailing address; you mail a physical check.

We learn that a donation occurred only when the external provider (or your bank) sends us confirmation through normal banking channels — never through the app.

What we do NOT collect

The app does not collect, access, or transmit any of the following:

  • Your physical location
  • Your contacts
  • Your photo library
  • Your microphone or camera input
  • Your web browsing history
  • Marketing or advertising identifiers (IDFA / GAID)
  • Biometric data (Face ID / Touch ID stays on your device)
  • Health or fitness data

Third-party services we use

The app loads or hands off to the following services. Each service has its own privacy policy, which governs whatever data it collects directly when you use that service through the app.

  • YouTube (Google LLC) — video playback for Past Satsangs and Shabads.
  • BoxCast Inc. — live stream broadcasts.
  • WordPress (gurujikaashramnj.com) — events calendar, photo galleries, audio shabads served from our own website.
  • Localendar — community Home Satsang events calendar.
  • Expo / EAS (Expo, Inc.) — push notification delivery and crash reports.
  • PayPal Holdings, Inc. — payment processor when you choose to donate via PayPal.

We do not sell, rent, or share any data with advertisers or marketing brokers. Ever.

Children’s privacy

The app is rated 4+ on the App Store and is suitable for general audiences, but it is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@gurujikaashramnj.com and we will delete it.

Your rights and choices

  • Opt out of notifications: iOS Settings → Notifications → Guruji Ka Ashram NJ → toggle off. (On Android: Settings → Apps → Guruji Ka Ashram NJ → Notifications.)
  • Opt out of analytics: open the app, go to Settings, and toggle “Share anonymous analytics” off.
  • Request data deletion: email privacy@gurujikaashramnj.com from the address associated with your account (if any) or describe the device involved. We will confirm deletion within 30 days.

California residents (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

  • Know what personal information we have about you
  • Request deletion of your personal information
  • Opt out of any “sale” or “sharing” of personal information (we do not sell or share personal information for advertising; this right is preserved regardless)
  • Be free from retaliation for exercising any of these rights

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@gurujikaashramnj.com. We will respond within 45 days.

European Union and United Kingdom residents (GDPR)

If you are in the EU, EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate personal data
  • Request erasure of your personal data (“right to be forgotten”)
  • Object to or restrict our processing of your personal data
  • Receive your personal data in a portable format
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority

The legal basis for our processing is your consent (notifications, analytics) and our legitimate interest in operating the app. To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@gurujikaashramnj.com.

Data retention

  • Push notification tokens are kept while you have notifications enabled and are deleted within 30 days of your opting out or uninstalling the app.
  • Anonymous analytics are retained for up to 14 months and then aggregated or deleted.
  • Donation records held by us (separate from the app) follow IRS recordkeeping requirements for 501(c)(3) organizations.

Security

We use TLS encryption in transit. Data we hold is stored on services with industry-standard access controls. No system is perfectly secure, but we do not store payment information at all, which removes the most sensitive category of data from our environment.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the current version. Material changes will be communicated through an in-app notice.
